Core Web Vitals: Turning Page Speed Into Revenue

Page speed stopped being a purely technical concern the moment it started moving conversion rates. Core Web Vitals give that instinct a measurable shape: how quickly the main content appears, how quickly the page responds, and how much it shifts while loading.

Where the time usually goes

  • Unoptimized hero imagery blocking the largest paint
  • Render-blocking CSS and third-party scripts loaded ahead of content
  • Web fonts that swap late and drag layout with them
  • Advertising and embed slots without reserved space
  • Uncached database queries on the hottest pages

Measure with field data, not just a lab score. A synthetic run on a fast connection will happily tell you everything is fine while real visitors on mid-range phones experience something else entirely.

Fix in order of impact, re-measure, and stop when the numbers stop moving. Performance work has a point of diminishing returns, and recognizing it is part of doing the job well.
